A while back I wrote a post called "My Own Routine." It talked about how traditional exercise does not work well for me. I have to find different ways that do not feel like exercise but still fulfil the need.

Racquetball has been my main source of exercise over the past few months. I love to play but since I have lost a little weight I find I cannot figure out where my BG should be before I start and how much I should change my basal rate on my pump. Last night was racquetball night and thankfully the very first time I made it through the entire game without going low.

I changed my basal rate down to 50% for an hour and started that a half an hour before we started playing. When we got to the court a quick stick check told me I was 86. That was a little low so I fired down a few glucose tabs, put on my glove, Croakies, and grabbed my racquet.

Three of my buddies and I played Double's and Cut-throat racquetball for a little over an hour. I did not realize it until our time was up but I was fine the entire time and I felt great! I honestly could have played longer which felt good to not feel totally drained when finished.

I have to brag a little here because I do not normally play very well. I won two games and both of them I came back from having one point when someone else was just about to win! I could not believe I came back from those but I really pushed myself and did it.

When we got to the car I changed into a dry shirt and checked my blood sugar. 118. When I saw it I shouted, "Right on!"

My buddy asked, "Was it that good?"

I told him, "Dude, it's like I was checking your non-D self!" My buddies all laughed.

I guess I won three games last night!

YEAH GEORGE! You did it!! Doesn't it feel great?? I'm still trying to find my numbers for exercise!! When I get through a whole squaredance without going low, my friends get so excited!!

REALITY CHECK - Bill Losh

I thought that I beat this thing for a while. I lost 30 lbs. Gave up sugar and....well... gave up everthing they told me to give up. My numbers were so good for a long time, then the holidays hit! My numbers shot up to let me know that I still got it.
I'll keep trying

George,

That is great news as I go low so easily and figuring out basal changes is tough for me.

I am glad you played well and that your bgs remained normal. Good bgs are key to good playing.

Sweet!
