"Sana Sana Colita De Rana" which is Spanish for "Heal, Heal. Butt of a Frog!" LOL Yeah, I swear.

It is usually said to little kids when they get hurt. You may call it a "boo boo" or "let mommy kiss the boo boo and make it better." The whole "frog butt" part is really used as a distraction. It's hard to worry about a stubbed toe when grandma just said something about a frog's bottom!

My Grandma Rosa was from Mexico and taught me a lot about things like Sana Sana. She told me that if I went outside with wet hair that I would get pneumonia, drinking coffee would make me skin dark, and that the UPS driver delivered tortillas to the lady across the street. And I believed all three. My grandma however only really believed the "wet hair" thing.

And it's not like she was crazy or anything but sometimes when someone tells you something with conviction or when someone you trust tells you something, you believe it. Like so many of us that thought there was a benefit to consuming Cinnamon. It turns out that is not true either.

Today the ADA posted that a research group out of Connecticut decided to check out if and how Cinnamon affected blood sugars. They had over 200 type 1 and type 2 people with diabetes and used regular old cinnamon to see what it did to improve their A1C's.

They found that the spice did not have any impact on A1C levels or on fasting blood sugars.

I get so annoyed when I hear about some new and great thing that is supposed to help our health and then it turns out that its wrong. Oh well, hopefully one of these days they will find that Dark Chocolate or Red Robin cheese sticks are the cure for diabetes.

Did any of you try the Cinnamon thing? For a short spell I was having tea with cinnamon but I gave up.

MikeDurbinMike was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on December 29, 2008, and congestive heart failure the very next day. Talk about a double whammy for anyone, let alone a 24 year old.  He didn’t have to come up with New Year’s resolutions that year; his doctors did that for him.  That kind of humor has been instrumental in keeping him, and those around him, going over the last year and a half.
