It's finally here: Jan. 1, 2008. There's really nothing all that significant about this day. I mean, it's the start of a new year and everything, but other than a day off from work there's nothing that special about today.

Except that today marks the first day of my new insurance coverage. Which means that as soon as I receive my new insurance card, I'll be calling insulin pump companies and fielding sales calls.

Today, just for fun, I looked up my top choices online; two web sites that I know all too well as I've visited a number of times over the last six weeks. I salivated over the top two and compared their features. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, because, with my luck, my new insurance will not cover either of these choices. And I've resolved that I have to go with whatever my insurance pays 100% for (the web site says they pay 100% for in network pump coverage) mainly because I can't afford to do anything else.

For the rest of the week, I'll eagerly check the mail when I get home to see if the new cards have come. And it will be tough, actually, for me to be patient because lately we either haven't been getting our mail or it has been left on our car windshields! Yes, Sarge, our 120-lb. German Shepherd, has a lot to do with that.

If I was really that desperate, I could go through my HR rep to get this process expedited, but I'm not that (outwardly) desperate. I know this is going to be a process that takes a little time, but today marks the first day I can officially start the get-Michelle-on-a-pump campaign.
