Dear Santa Baby,

Ok, maybe I'm not on your list of good persons with diabetes this year, but surely I'm not on the naughty PWD list either!
My A1C has stayed in the 5's all year. I had a baby WITHOUT macrosomia. So I think I can ask for a few items your elves might be able to whip up, if not for this year, surely in time for next year's yule.

  • A lancet device that doesn't hurt, or at least doesn't hurt the first 10 times you use it. I have found the pain dulls as the devices do, even though that is NOT the recommended way to use them.
  • Multiple meters all calibrated to each other so the one in my purse and the one in my desk and the one in my kitchen make some relative sense when all used on the same day. While you're at it, can you reduce that 20% margin of error if I promise to wash my hands carefully before each poke?
  • Sugarless candy canes and peppermint puffs that have all the minty sweetness and lightness of the originals
  • A totally accurate food scale and carb counter ~ preferably built into my hand. But I realize that's asking a lot of elves who primarily work in plastic these days.
  • A gross count of exercise motivation, along with a lifetime supply of food moderation tablets. You'll retire a billionaire if the elves can pull this one off.
  • A home hydroponic garden so I can grow my own salads!

Thanks Santa. My best to Mrs. Claus and Rudolph. Don't forget my son's digital camera!

Carey PotashCarey is a full-time hater of diabetes. The benefits stink. His 7-year-old son, Charlie, has been giving he and his wife the finger since November of 2003. Carey's parenting humor has appeared in various websites and print magazines. He resides in the suburbs of Philadelphia with his wife and three children. (Read More)

JuliaJulia lives behind the Tofu Curtain, in the Pioneer Valley, in Western Massachusetts. It's a nice place. She likes it there. Her eldest daughter, Olivia, has type 1 diabetes. She's also 13. It's a real toss-up as to which is more difficult -- the diabetes or the teen-age drama. (Read More)
