If you are a kid out there who is living with diabetes then you are still a great person and you have a lot ahead of you to look forward too. I remember when I was diagnosed, I was fourteen and I felt like I had the whole world in my hands. Then I got diabetes and that changed dramatically. I was all of the sudden forced to face the world in a completely new territory; I no longer felt like I was perfect. It was easy to ignore diabetes and act like it didn't change anything. But, I want to make clear to you that you have to pay attention to it. The most important thing that you should understand is that you should embrace it.You need to take care of yourself and continue to do the things that are important to you.

I also want to encourage you to speak with me directly if you have any questions. You can email me, call me on my cell-phone, whatever, I just want to you to know that you have to take care of it and that you will be thanking yourself later in life if you do.

I ignored mine. I partied, I drank, and I smoked. It started to get the best of me and I knew if I continued to neglect my diabetes, that it would come back and bite me in the butt. Today, I stand proud, just as you should, that you are a person with diabetes.

If you or someone you know is a young person with diabetes that is drinking heavily and partying or ignoring diabetes, then please contact me. I have experimented with all that stuff and I know the dangers of that behavior and what it will do to you if you continue.

Thank you.
