Kerri, our buddy ol' pal here at Blogabetes, sent us bloggers some writing prompts the other day. One prompt that hit home with me was writing about what people can do during these cold months to stay active and keep the pounds off. It is a natural process for us as humans to throw on a few extra lbs as the cold weather starts to approach. With that in mind, I for one, really enjoy working out in MY VERY OWN LIVING ROOM. Even as dedicated as some of us are to working out, it is still a pain to get out into the cold. Nobody likes running to their car, scraping the ice off, and waiting for it warm up just to drive to the gym!! It is hard enough for people to be motivated on the warm days. That's where your living room and your creativity come into play.
I have had some of the BEST workouts in my life, in my PJs on the living room floor! And the most important aspect of these living room workouts is that they are SIMPLE. What I typically do is stretch, do push-ups and sit-ups, and various ball exercises. The key to a good workout in the home is to KEEP MOVING! You can start out by testing your blood sugar. Know what your target blood sugar should be before exercising - talk to your doctor to work out this number. We each have our own systems in place to prevent getting too high or low. I have heard some people say that their sugars rise during exercise and others it shoots straight down. As with anything with diabetes you should always have juice or sugar nearby. I also like to test throughout my routine to see how my sugars are responding to different things.
This is a video that I made today and it explains some of what I am talking about. These are just some basic ideas to get you started in the right direction. There will be more to come that deal with more specific routines and exercises.
Thank you. -Andy

You betcha, Andy! I liked your video. I just sprung for a brand-new exercycle (the latest Schwinn spinner, less than half-price at our local All About Sports store), and I LOVE working out at home. I just retired from teaching after 23 years, and I'm determined to get back in shape, No More Excuses. A friend gifted me with an ipod shuffle, so I have tunes to cycle to. And I have plenty of tapes to lift weights and do yoga to. I know this is The Way To Go for me to get in shape. I'm a Type 1, on a pump, and looking forward to getting in the best shape of my life!
AWESOME Briget52! Sounds GREAT! thank you for commenting.
