I finally got the results from my bloodwork. My endo has you come in for the appointment, then go do bloodwork, then mails you the results with a note of any changes they want to implement on it. I'd prefer to have the numbers to discuss at the appointment, but I really like the other aspects of his practice, so I stay with him.
Without further ado - the number all persons with diabetes are most interested in - the A1C. (drumroll, please)
5.5%. Yes, five point five! I have seen 5.5 before but I was pregnant and on insulin. I am pretty thrilled. My last A1C in May was 5.8, so this is great.
I'm also very excited about my cholesterol. You don't get accurate results on those tests when you're pregnant, so it's been about 2 years since my last test. My total cholesterol is down from 191 to 164! And my HDL is UP from 35 to 57! FIFTY-SEVEN!
HDL is the good cholesterol and women should have levels above 40 or 50 depending on whose recommendations you read. For some reason, women need a higher level than men.
I eat oatmeal everyday, take an omega-3 supplement, quit smoking in Jan '06 and exercise more than I have in the past 12 years (though not enough). I think these things together with the way I eat now brought that HDL up.
I am really tickled by my numbers. It appears that the food plan I try to follow and the 2000 mg of metformin a day are doing the trick. The trick of controlling my type 2 diabetes. For today anyway. It is a progressive disease, but to paraphrase Dr. Phil - "The best predictor of future control is past control".
Now -- how does one celebrate without food or alcohol?

Fabulous work- what great numbers! To celebrate... Hmmm... I say break out the Fresca!
Well Congrats on your A1C results I have type 2 also and right now I'm taking metformin and glipize, last time I went to see my endo my A1c I think was around 6 my endo said next time when I go see her if my a1c is not good she is going to let me inject insulin I really hope my alc is under control I mean I've been slacking off on my dieting but after meals most of the time ti's below 150 I really hope I don't have to inject insulin I've been seeing this doctor after I got pregnant with my daughter, before my pregnancy I was seeing my health care provider and she was just leting me take metformin 500mg and it was working but if my blood sugar was not under control my health care provider was going to let me take 1000 mg of metformin. My endo on the other hand says if my blood sugar isn't under control she's going to let me inject insulin I don't think i really need to because When I eat the way I'm suppose to with the medication I'm taking now my blood sugar is usually under 100. I think if I inject insulin I'm going to have alot of lows and the other thing I heard insulin make you gain weight I jsut had my baby and gained 35 lbs and during pregnancy I injected insluin I gain an over all of 60lbs that's just crazy.
