You may have heard by now. Medtronic has announced the FDA approval and U.S. market launch of a remote monitor that will allow parents or caregivers to view CGM results from another room. This is incredible news! I have long been dreaming about this. Incidentally, I have also been dreaming about having a poodle named Jenga that is lost. But that is beside the point, I reckon.
I immediately called Medtronic upon hearing the news. I was so excited, I could hardly speak. I just wanted to reach into the phone, hug the guy and say, "I love you, man." That is, until he told me the price.
He mentioned that he had already sold a bunch to parents and that earlier in the morning he had a woman crying tears of joy. When you think of, it is such a simple enhancement to CGM management and a natural evolution yet so necessary; so important. It changes so much for parents.
It's called mySentry but I'm not sure why. I'd call it mySweetF-ingPieceofMind.
So, back to the price. It is a lot of money. It makes me wonder if this is just Medtronic seeing an opportunity to have desperate parents like myself by the short hairs - cashing in on our fears, which are in great demand. The pump and the transmitter are the brains of this operation. Is this anything more than a glorified extension cord? Screw it. I don't care. I want it. I must have it.
The monitor, I'm told, costs $3000. If you act now, there is a limited launch price of $2400. For payment plans, Medtronic will accept 20 percent down ($480) and monthly payments of $160 for one year.
If anyone out there has this monitor or plans to have it soon, I'd love to hear from you. Also, if anyone has seen Jenga, I'd like to hear from you as well. I'd greatly appreciate a night of sleep that didn't consist of checking blood sugars and searching for imaginary poodles.

well, this is all well and good. How exciting, but...if I remember correctly, you said that Charlie didn't like the one you have, he has trouble with the sensors now. How is that going to be different? what about the omni pod? Will that work?
hey kathryn. It's true, Charlie is not a fan of the process, but last one went swimmingly, so ... we're not ready to give up on it yet.
I'm having medtronic send it to my insurance first, even though they're fairly certain it will just be denied. Figured it doesn't hurt and if they deny it I'll just start taking the steps to fight it, even if I have to start paying out of pocket to begin with. We use the sensors 24/7 and I want this!!
Like the idea. Currently not that happy w/ Medtronic for non-diabetes-related reasons.

HOLY CRAP i had no idea it was that expensive. jeez. also, i was under the impression it only worked with the revel? (which we don't have). we're gonna wait until the new cgm hits the market (enlite) in the hopes that it will encourage my kid to wear it more frequently.
