They say a war is being waged inside the bodies of type 1 diabetics. Hell, I've even said it a bunch of times. But is it war when only one side is attacking?
Based on the footage I just watched, I wouldn't call it a war at all. It's a freakin' massacre. Cellular images from the La Jolla Institute show how type 1 diabetes occurs in real time. Jesus! It's jarring. My son's beta cells never had a chance. It's the Battle of Little Bighorn. It's Beta's Last Stand.
"Objects resembling ants can be seen furiously scampering about looking for their prey," the researchers said. The beta cells within the pancreas are absolutely besieged by the Killer Ts in a ruthless and seemingly focused attack.
Beta is all like, "Please! Take whatever you want! There's a hundred bucks on my nightstand and two tickets to tomorrow's Jets game. Please! Just take it and go. I have a family."
Killer T cells will have none of it. Millions of them gain access to the pancreas via the blood stream and descend upon the organ. In a swarm-like manner, they hunt down the defenseless beta cells and release a toxic substance or "kiss of death" which slowly destroys the insulin-producing cells.
Honestly, it's really upsetting to watch. Knowing that it's happening or has happened inside your child's body is rough. Charlie was only 22 months old when this merciless assault was going on.
A battalion of rogue T cells went postal on our children. Where's the oversight? Where's the internal investigation? Where's the accountability? Friendly fire? I don't think so.
I want justice!

holy crap.
