Now, a sausage skin that cures diabetes.

This is it! The one we've been waiting for. The cure for diabetes.

This is like a dream come true for Charlie. He loves sausage. But wait, it gets better. The procedure allegedly lasts less than an hour and it reverses diabetes within weeks. But wait, it gets even better. No surgery required. Just open wide and inhale the two feet of sausage-like material like a sea otter.

Wa la. Cured.

If you've followed me for a bit, you'll know that I tend to take some shots at news headlines that don't make the distinction between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. I just find it to be lazy and irresponsible journalism. However, in fairness, most of the ones I poke fun of do eventually get around to referencing type 2. What makes this article from The Hindu particularly troubling is that there is not a single reference to type 1 or type 2 anywhere in the story. Nothing. Nada.  With a readership of over 4 million, The Hindu is doing a fantastic job of circulating diabetes misconception far and wide.

The frustrating thing is that the original Daily Mail article cited by The Hindu, mentions "type 2" three times. In their truncated version, The Hindu editors took a chainsaw to the Daily Mail story, leaving out little things like facts and accuracy.

I know this is jerky of me and super sarcastic, but I had to send this email to The Hindu. I'm curious to see what sort of response I get or even if I get a response at all.

Sausage Skin That Cures Diabetes.

Oh my God! This is incredible news! Thank you so much for publishing this story. I can't wait to tell my son about this. I can't believe his doctors hadn't even mentioned it! Reverses diabetes within weeks? You have no idea what a relief this is. My 9-year-old son has lived with diabetes since he was just 21 months old. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

All publications need to know that this is not OK. It delegitimizes the type 1 fight and turns the public perception to tabloid.

what. the actual. frack.

i think your sarcastic response was right on.

just, wtaf people.

You are absolutely right! The stupidity of some journalist, etc. I don't go on the "Diabetes Forecast" message board because after do so, got a myriad of things like the above from who knows who. They are all over the place and no one seems to call them on it. In most cases, not even type 2 could be cured by the incredible discoveries promoted. They are intended for those who desperately want something to cure this disease and will pay anything to get it. EVERYONE with this disease and those caring for children and others with the disease all want a cure! But, we want a real cure and these phonies just agitate and stir up the non-diabetic against helping to find the real cure.

what the frack, indeed. well said, shannon. Thanks, Richard. Absolutely. I guess it's our job to call them on it since no one else is.
