1.       So, did you hear about the Phoenix Haboob? (Or as The Mr. likes to say: HA! Boob!) It blew right over us. The atmosphere outside quickly went from fairly light to pitch black. In fact, the reason I even looked outside was because it got so dark I thought a storm was approaching. I couldn’t see the house across the street from us, and could barely see my backyard fence about 50 feet away. It was almost silly to see all five of us huddled by the back sliding glass door watching the wind whip the palm trees around. We watched national TV coverage of the storm, which gave us a great perspective of what we were in the middle of. Took me back to watching the thunderstorms and TV weather coverage back home.

2.       I’m cheap. Did you know that? I sometimes say I’m frugal, but really I’m cheap. Earlier this year I was the official team photographer for the Phoenix Team Diabetes at the PF Chang’s Rock N Roll Marathon. I wanted to stand out to the participants as they rounded their last turn toward the finish line. So I grabbed a plain red shirt and ironed on “got insulin?” (The cheap part of this is that I didn’t want to go online and buy a shirt; I wanted to spend about $5 and make my own. So I did.) I wear that shirt a lot — probably once a week. Yesterday while I was checking out at the grocery store one of the associates said to me “Do you do the diabetes walk?” I was glad that at least someone noticed my shirt!

3.       I restarted Metformin, as my endo instructed. I have had no tummy troubles, which is nice. And though I didn’t think I saw a difference in my numbers when I stopped, I am definitely seeing a difference in my numbers now that I’ve restarted. I’m having many more fastings that are “acceptable” vs. “disgusting.”

4.       School starts here in two weeks. Yes, we go back super duper extra early. Our school district has a modified year round schedule. So we go from late July to early June, which leaves about a 7-week summer break. We also have a two-week fall break and a two-week spring break, which makes up for the shorter summer. This year I will have a 6th grader, 3rd grader and a kindergartener. As I did with No. 1 and No. 2, I recently bought an expensive, well built backpack for No. 3. No. 1 and No. 2 have had the same backpack since kindergarten. My baby is going to kindergarten. I just might cry.
