I was invited to be part of a local mini-series. How exciting! I envision my name in lights, a crowd of adoring fans, gorgeous women at my feet,.

What's that? It's not actually a TV mini-series? My mistake,.

The morning of, my doctor tells me he is giving a presentation on pump strategies alongside other professionals who will be discussing diabetes topics. It is called "Type-1 night" and is part of TCOYD's local San Diego mini-series. Professionals are invited too, to be available as dart boards for impending aerodynamically darted questions from the audience. Different companies were represented also including: Novo Nordisk, Insulin Independence, Sanofi Aventis, and where I spent the most time, Insulet.

Doctors spoke of the latest technologies and where they were headed. They spoke about the seriousness of hypoglycemia. Along with what to look for when deciphering lab results. I was most intrigued by one doctor's unbiased thoughts on Dexcom's continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and his push for everyone to explore some sort of CGM for themselves- no matter who manufactures it!

This night of type-1 activity was just a taste of what TCOYD offers the diabetes community. In early December, the San Diego TCOYD Conference will take place and draw an even bigger crowd to partake in seminars, workshops, and even one-on-one counseling for diabetes of all types. It is a way to connect with your own diabetes and get informative answers and thought surrounding your health.

Forty dollars for advance registration may stretch this college student's comfort zone for spending a little, but it will cover the day's lunch, snacks and all activities. And besides, with what they're gonna pay me for this new acting gig, it'll be a drop in the bucket.
