Last week I wrote about how I had decided to go back to using my CGMS. Not long after I placed my order I received an email from the medical supply company that I use that I needed to contact them about my order.

I was sort of used to this; last year and the year before I had trouble either with insurance or with the medical supply company getting the order processed. I was on a first-name basis with my customer service rep. I wouldn't even talk to anyone else since J knew exactly what I needed and what we were dealing with.

So when I got the email the other day I assumed it had something to do with the issues I had before, especially since I hadn't renewed the prescription in quite some time. I figured I'd just need to call my insurance or call the doctor's office or something pretty easy.

I emailed them back, as requested, and finally got a response this morning that the sensors would not be $69 as I had thought, they would be $133. For only four sensors. This threw a wrench in things.

Last year when I used the sensors and paid roughly $60 for four that was acceptable. I did not have a problem with that price, especially since I could get about 10 days out of one sensor. But when I'm pinching pennies and am faced with double the cost of the sensors -- for something I'm not 100% committed to -- I just don't know if it's worth it.

There was a time when I couldn't live without Dex and I know there are a lot of people who can't live without their CGMS, but I'm really going to have to think about this. I'm sure it's an insurance thing and a deductible thing and a paying 20% after the deductible thing. And I'm sure that as the year progresses and if I order more sensors the cost will go down. But right now I just don't know if I can justify the cost.

I have an appointment with my endo on Thursday. If my A1C is atrocious (as I expect it will be) I will likely be more inclined to suck it up and pay the double price.
