How often do you worry about diabetes complications?

I scheduled my endo appointment for June 24th. It'll be my first visit with this doctor, but I've heard she is good at what she does. I've also read a brief bio about her online and I like what I see. She went to my alma mater and she attended medical school in my hometown. I'm unsure whether she has enough experience in type 1, but since I'm not a needy patient, I'm hoping it'll be okay.

All that means that I have a few things to do before that last week in June. First, I need to get a referral sent over from my primary care physician, which is something that I'm not used to but must be done to have insurance pay for these things. I also need to get my diabetes in order.

Last week, I started back logging my blood sugars. Not insulin quite yet, but at least writing down where I am and how often I'm checking. It's sad how far off track I've gotten in the last months.

I also have raised my Lantus to 34 units at midnight, although it seems that I'm still waking up high. I'm not increasing it again quite yet since I'm hoping to add exercise back into my routine over the next week. I need to get my treadmill back into the apartment and I'm hoping to try a yoga studio this weekend if time/energy permits.

My hope is that I can lose some weight, which will offset whatever increase I might need in the Lantus. I've gained about 15 pounds total in the past year or so and I hope to lose at least 13 over the next months. By August, I want to be at my goal weight.

And by June, I want to be in a blood sugar average range of 175 with at least four blood sugar checks per day. I also want to start logging insulin levels again.

That way I can truly see what's going on with my blood sugars. And I have something tangible for the doctor to see why my A1c is where it is. I'm doing this slowly to offset any lows, but also know that a month goes by quickly.

So for the next month, these are my goals:
1. Log all blood sugars and insulin levels
2. Check at least four times per day
3. Attend a yoga class at least once per week
4. Walk on the treadmill at least three times per week (for at least 30 minutes per time)

Wish me luck!
