It has been a week of disgustingly high blood sugars for no apparent reason. It started on Monday night when I woke up twice and tested over 600 mg/dL at 3 a.m.
I have done everything I can possibly think of to keep my sugar in check: changed my site, drowned myself in water, taken an injection, cut out snacks, barely eat carbs. There have been a handful of blood sugar checks that were normal and that caused me to jump for joy. Which also lead me to believe my site is not the issue, nor is my diet, nor that I'm not bolusing correctly.
The only thing I haven't done is to either set a temporary basal rate, change my basal rate and/or call my endo to see what the heck I can do.
There are a few things I can think of that might be causing me to be consistently -- and I'm talking all the freaking time -- over or around 200 mg/dL for nearly a week. Firstly, I think my Monthly Friend is making her way to my house. I've never had this kind of resistance, though, during PMS time. Secondly, something strange could be going on regarding my blood clot issue, though not likely. Thirdly, I could be getting the cold that's moving through my house. Fourhtly, I simply need an adjustment in my pump settings.
I'm skeptical about needing to change my pump settings because it seems slightly unreal to me that my body would require such a dramatic change seemingly overnight. Though anything is possible when it comes to diabetes, right?
I'm off to make a Friday afternoon call to my endo's office that likely won't yield a call back until Monday.

I read your posts all the time. It seems like your weird highs started when you started your new bipolar medication. Several bipolar medications can cause extreme high blood sugars eg Abilify, zyprexa, seroquel. Have you checked that angle?
My son(age 9) is T1 and occasionally has to take a high dose steroid medication which is actually contraindicated for diabetics. We make it work by tripling his basal rates. Becasue of this, I am very suspect of medications' impacts on BGs so it is always my first culprit. Just thought I would bring it to your attention in case you hadnt thought of it yet yourself.
Hope you feel better soon.
I considered if the meds for bipolar were the culprit, but I've been on those since late last year, so I doubt that a sudden bout of insulin resistance is related to that. Naturally, after I called my endo yesterday my sugar started behaving. Not perfect, but not the sustained highs I had been seeing for three days. I still don't really have an answer, but the kids' cold did move into my head last night, so the highs could have been related to that.
i am bipo;ar it never accured to me that med might have an affect on my sugars. and could someone please explain bassal rate to me never heard of that. thank you for the info i did find out. hope
Biggles -- a basal rate is the base amount of insulin you get either through long-acting insulin or an insulin pump.
