I must say. Ketones may not help to make the season bright, but the continuous glucose monitor absolutely does. Our first Christmas with the CGM and it was a pleasure to enjoy the day without attacking Charlie all day a la Norman Bates in Psycho. Christmas with the CGM - should be a Hallmark Channel holiday classic.

Holidays are usually pretty rough on Charlie's blood sugars, but his numbers were decent this Christmas. I think the trouble begins with grazing on appetizers.

"Charlie, how many of those crackers did you eat?"

[shrugs shoulders] "I dunno. Maybe six?"

We either over-bolus or under-bolus. It's a holiday tradition.

The only minor problem and it's funny that I call it minor, was when Charlie pulled me aside to tell me he thought he had blood in his tubing. He took me into the bathroom foyer area for privacy and showed me his tubing, which did indeed have a light streak of pink. A result of partially falling down the stairs, I later learned.

While most everyone else was ogling the dessert table, Susanne was slapping a new infusion set on Charlie.

For us this is minor. For someone who does not live this sort of lifestyle, blood in a tube attached to your son's body via needle, might sound like a major emergency that requires the immediate attention of a professional. It was all good. Doctor Susanne was on it.

I had a long discussion with my sister-in-law's father-in-law about Charlie. He genuinely marveled over how good Charlie looked and at all that we go through to keep him healthy. It was very nice to hear. I don't know about you, but I actually like talking about my son and what he goes through with diabetes. I appreciate when someone wants to know about the pump and how it's attached, etc. I'm proud of

Charlie. I want to talk about him. I also tend to get a little chatty when I've had a couple.  Man, those poinsettia cocktails went down easy.

[slurred speech] "The bessst kid on hizzz [burp] hockey team and he's got the diabet ... [burp] he's got the [burp] he's got the [burp] ... and he's got the diabetes."

"I JUST LOVE THAT [burp] KID!!!!"

A happy and healthy New Year to you all!
