It's been ages since I posted here. My life has been chaotic and, frankly, I haven't had much to write about anywhere online.

We had to switch endocrinologists recently because our health insurance won't cover Olivia's doctors at Joslin. Olivia and I both hate it but we can't afford to pay out of pocket to see Dr. R so we've switched to UMass.

Our initial appointment was with an awful doctor who left us waiting for three hours in the exam room and offered no apology when he finally came in. He got all snotty with me when I expressed my annoyance. He kept calling me "mom." Dood, unless you came out of my womb, you don't call me mom, capiche?

So when I made the next appointment, I asked for someone else. We were given an appointment with a nurse practitioner and she was fine. Funny and nice, she seemed like she might be an OK fit for us. But now she's leaving, so we're going to see a third doctor there. In less than a year.

I've talked to Olivia about switching to the pediatric endocrinology group out here in Springfield, MA but she wants nothing to do with them. Back to UMass we'll go in March and hopefully this new doctor will also be decent. I have a lot to say about the practice at UMass - I'll be writing about that in the future.

I absolutely hate that we can't go to Joslin anymore and I'm wondering if that isn't coloring my opinion about the UMass practice. I want to like someone there - that's where Olivia was diagnosed and she used to see Dr. Craig Alter there until he moved to Pennsylvania. But I switched to Joslin because I didn't like the other doctors in the practice. The person we're seeing in March has come on board since we left, though, so maybe she'll be fine.

I hope so. And in the meantime, I'm looking for a fulltime job that had a health insurance plan that will cover us at Joslin.

I so hear you on the Dr. R front. (Since she was my pediatric endo and to this day, I still want to go into that little children's wing and sit in the waiting room with the tiles on the wall.) But, insurance-wise, there was a time that my mom and I had to switch from Joslin for a spell. It did suck, royally.

I'm hoping for a new job for you asap, with new insurance, so you and O can make your way back to Dr. R.

I hope it works out - sorry that you got lost in the Insurance shuffle - I hope that soon you can see whomever you feel is best for Olivia! I will keep my mouh shut about insurance companies etc!!

my son goes to U Mass, I did not know that there are doctors there to see....I have diabetes and live in NJ. I go to a diabetes center in NY, and think it is very very hard to find the right team. How old is your son or daughter?
