I have to do something this afternoon that I've never done before. And I'm not looking forward to it. In fact, I suspect there will be ridiculous amounts of screaming and crying.

No. 2 needs bloodwork. *sigh* Actually, she's the toughest of all the kids when it comes to stuff like this so she may surprise me and not throw a fit, but I'm seriously not holding my breath.

She has a strange mix of things going on with her and the doctor thought getting some bloodwork would either help rule out a connection or help us treat the problems as a whole.

I'm no stranger to getting poked with needles and having copious amounts of blood drained from my arm. It started when I was 18 and developed a number of blood clots thanks to being on The Pill. So I was monitored constantly to make sure I was on the right dosage of blood thinners. Then, when The Mr. and I told my very favorite OB that we were ready to start trying for our first baby she ordered so many blood tests that I nearly passed out. OK, so I should have eaten first, but that's neither here nor there right now.

With my history of blood clots I had to take injections of blood thinners throughout all three pregnancies and of course the coagulation of my blood had to be monitored. And then on top of that there's all the bloodwork associated with having diabetes and being hypothyroid.

So for *me* getting bloodwork is not even a blip on the radar screen. It's just another thing. So I don't even really know how to prepare No. 2 for this. She's 7. She's a drama queen. She's the kid who volunteered to go first when we were getting flu shots last year and didn't cry. She's tough and fragile in the same breath.

One of the things Dr. N is testing is her thyroid. When she said she wanted to check that I half chuckled and said that with me and all the women on my mom's side being hypothyroid and me also having Hashimoto's that it wouldn't surprise me if my girls had some sort of thyroid issue. Just didn't think it would happen when she's so young.

Of course, at this point her thyroid could be fine. Only time and bloodwork will tell.
