Around the third week of taking Byetta I noticed a marked difference in my appetite. Not only did I not feel the pangs of hunger at almost every turn, but my portion sizes at each meal have dramatically decreased. In fact, I found that having half of a small cucumber, 10 crackers and cheese and a glass of water for lunch was more than satisfying on a number of occasions. One night for dinner, I shocked my husband when I sat down with a handful of carrots and a glass of water while the rest of the family had tacos! Some days I feel like I can skip a meal altogether-something I can't ever remember feeling on a regular basis.

Due to my much smaller appetite, I have finally experienced a slight weight loss. I'm down just 4 lb. in five weeks, but considering that I haven't been able to restart my exercise routine I find this very comforting.

With the 5 mcg starter dose, it seemed like it took a week or so for the ball to get rolling. I mean, I was seeing some results in my numbers, but I was still hideously hungry and unable to control what I ate. When I started the 10 mcg dose, I expected all the symptoms I had been experiencing for the last several weeks to continue. But it was almost as if I was starting all over again-I had a mild return of hunger and a loss of some of the nausea.

The first week of August I made some major changes. I started my daily walk again, started testing after every meal (and quite often in between just to see where I am), and cut down on between-meal snacks. I was horrified to see I had gained back two or three of the 4 lb. I had lost! I think my body was just getting reacquainted with the routine. This morning, the scale revealed that two of those pounds are gone again.

While there are moments I question the merits of a drug that doesn't allow me the pleasure of an occasional high-carb meal or a dessert without keeping my numbers in range, overall I have to say Byetta is treating me well.

Hi Michele
Im not on Byetta, and Im a type 1, but I saw your post about not having an appetite and I can relate to that very well. I have been diabetic for about 31 1/2 years and have lost my appetite. Back in the 90's I suffered a head concussion that made me lose my short term memory and along with my appetite desire. I eat about 1x a day, maybe 2x a day, depending where I am and how Im feeling. I have an insulin pump and have been since 1999. I can choose when I want to eat and if I dont want to eat one day, my blood sugars ares ok with that. Ive lost weight, of course, but it fluctuates up and down around 5 lbs or less. Im at a good weight now.

I started byetta yesterday, the first thing I noticed I am cold. Then when I make coffee, I can't smell the coffee while it brewed and I don;t feel hungry the whole day. I can't work either because of nausea, can't drive because you feel like you're not there. I've been diabetic for 20 years and my doctor started me on Humulin and then change it to Lantus a year and a half ago. Last night I had 3 low episodes while I'm sleeping I have to set my alarm every 3 hours to check my sugar. I have diabetic unawareness. I don't think byetta will work for me. I will ask my doctor for another option like insulin pump or another fast acting insulin.

I have been taking Byetta for over a year,.. I started on the 5 MG and then went up to 10. I was sick with the ten but my numbers were good and I lost over 60 lbs.. then the doc put me back on the 5. My numbers are still good but I have gained some of the weight back. I feel like eating again because I am not sick.. I would have a term that was " Iam feeling Byetta sick" it was a nausa that was more the form of a headach then stomach sickness..
I would love to start a blog here..
How do I do that? I am new to the group here. I have a Xanga blog so I know how to blog and I was thinking there would be a way to start a blog site here but I guess that is not the way to do it.. Please help
Thanks so much
