First, let me tell you that I used my very last sensor in February, and didn't even get a full life out of it. I decided to try to different spot on my belly and it wound up being a crap spot because the readings would come in sketchy and after about twoish days I realized most of the adhesive had come off. So I begrudgingly yanked it.

But I was in the midst of fighting my insurance company for coverage of my sensors and I was certain that the situation would be resolved soon and that it wouldn't be long until I had replacement sensors. And then one day, like magic, I got word that the sensors were covered. It was like an enormous weight was gone.

I quickly took care of the other weight on my shoulders: paying my deductible from the last batch of pump supplies I received. Medtronic said I only needed to pay it in full before I ordered supplies again so I was taking my time.

I quickly called Medtronic to pay the bill and asked the rep if they would somehow let my insurance company know that I had now met my deductible. He sounded as if I were the only one who had ever asked that question and said "we don't do that."

OK, fine, I thought. I'm sure this stuff works itself out. So I waited a couple days to make sure the transaction had time to go through the right channels before I called XX Medical Supply company.

"I just paid the deductible," I told J, who had been working with me since December.

She took my credit card information and I was ecstatic to have only paid 20% for the sensors. I couldn't wait! J called back fairly soon and said she was trying to run everything through and my insurance company didn't show I had met my deductible.

I got so pissed thinking that if it wasn't one thing it was another. I got on the phone to the insurance company, ready to rip someone another one, and realized that the deductible I had paid in March was actually from 2008 (new job in August, new insurance in September and I needed new supplies in October or November so I was forced to order new supplies and endure the deductible so late in the year).

I was crushed.

So despite hating the fact that I've paid for the Dexcom (and that there's now an upgrade!) and can't use it, I feel comfortable most of the time without the constant monitoring. When I'm able to pay the 2009 deductible I'll definitely be ordering the sensors, which will make me feel oh so much better during my morning walks.
