In 2006 I quit smoking.

In 2006 I gained a lot of weight.

In 2007 I joined Weight Watchers and lost over 40 pounds!

In 2008 I gained it all back. Every last pound.

Now this year I have to do something about it. Last year I spent dwelling on all the things wrong with my life and did not take care of myself the way I should. And for what purpose? To feel worse? To waste a year getting fatter and feeling terrible?

It's funny how easy it is to tell someone to keep their chin up and to help motivate others when you cannot do it for yourself.

My last A1C was a 8.5 and I have yet to go back because I know it is worse. My blood sugars have been through the roof because of my eating habits and lack of exercise.
When my doctor drew my blood last week I knew I would get the number and would see the damage I had done. When I stepped on the scale and the nurse had to move that bottom weight over another 50 pounds I knew I needed to get my act together.

My pants don't fit right. My shirts look awful and I have noticed a brand new chin on my face when I look in the mirror.

No my friends something must be done and soon.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the numbness I was feeling in my arm? I know it has everything to do with my cholesterol that is for sure.

With a dad who died at 43 of a heart attack, losing weight and dropping my cholesterol should be a major priority.

I must make a priority.

I have to.

MikeDurbin
MikeDurbinMike was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on December 29, 2008, and congestive heart failure the very next day. Talk about a double whammy for anyone, let alone a 24 year old.  He didn’t have to come up with New Year’s resolutions that year; his doctors did that for him.  That kind of humor has been instrumental in keeping him, and those around him, going over the last year and a half.
