I posted last week about feeling out of the ordinary and just plain sick. It was off and on all week with some days feeling great and others feeling terrible. I waited it out through the weekend, trying to take it easy as much as possible and eat as best as I could.
I thought I'd made it through without needing anything other than my immune system. But Tuesday night, I was feeling the worst I'd felt so far. I had suspected a urinary tract infection before, but now I was almost positive. The urgency, the pain, all those telling symptoms were all much worse. To top it off, my blood sugars were lingering in the 200's despite boluses.
So Christmas Eve, I went into the doctor. They ran the test. Urinary Tract Infection. The doctor prescribed me Macrobid and tried to explain blood sugars to me. I just looked at him in silence (I find it's easier to let them tell me what they think they know instead of argue, at least when I'm feeling sick). So I filled my prescription, bought AZO Standard, and went on my way.
By the time I was heading to church, I was feeling alright except for one thing. Nausea. So I ate a small snack and decided not to mix the AZO Standard and the antibiotics anymore. Apparently, that was my only problem. Since then, I haven't had any more nausea or stomach upset. And my body is feeling alright. Still not perfect, but getting better.
My blood sugars dropped Wednesday afternoon, but soared back up on Christmas Day (of course!). This morning, they are settled in the 130's, which I will gladly take if they remain there until the infection is completely gone. It's much easier for my body to do its job when my blood sugars are stable than when they can't seem to stabilize.
I've suspected urinary tract infections before, but usually when I make it to the doctor, there is nothing to be seen in the lab test. My mother and my grandmother have always gotten UTI's in multitudes. I'm hoping that this blip isn't the signs of a hereditary movement. I'll pass on another health condition that raises my blood sugars.
Since my blood sugars elevated the week after finals, I'm hoping that caused the infection. I'd prefer to know that keeping my blood sugars in range would ward off UTI's instead of knowing that nothing can be done. I suppose that only time will tell.
