Today the world unites as one as we celebrate and promote WDD awareness. Frankly, it's about time it got the recognition it deserves.

Since its inception in 1998, the Washington Dentists Directory (WDD) has been the premier destination for professional dentist profiles and patient reviews in Washington state. Dental offices throughout Washington will show their support today by illuminating their offices in blue - the official color of floss.

Wait, what?

You say WDD is World Diabetes Day?

Oh.

I waited for a commercial to snap my wife out of her Grey's Anatomy stupor.

Me: "Tomorrow is World Diabetes Day."

Her: "It is? What do I do?"

Me: "I dunno. I guess wear something blue."

Her: "I don't have anything blue."

Me: (rolling my eyes and walking away with contempt in my heart)

I guess if Charlie's blood sugar is high all day, we'll just have to tell him mom couldn't find anything blue to wear.

I, on the other hand, will be marking the occasion with a diabetes blue, lambs wool sweater. I will wear this sweater proudly until I can no longer withstand the uncomfortable warmth and itchiness (roughly 1 pm). At that point, I will shed my sweater and wear a brown, checkered button-down shirt, shifting my support from diabetes awareness to Puppy Mill Awareness. Just before leaving the office for home at 5 pm, I will throw the sweater back on, once again promoting diabetes awareness.

I just checked Charlie's blood sugar. It was 390.

We suspect his blood sugars have been running very high at night lately because he's going through a growth spurt.

On this day particularly, I would like people unfamiliar with the disease to become aware of its many complexities. Diabetes is a punishing disease.

Right now my son is being punished because he's just trying to grow.

Happy friggin' WDD.

Growth spurts are a pain, but it is better than having his growth stunted :>
For Harry these growth blip highs usually last three days. On the negative side you probably need to check every 2 or 3 hours all night, on the positive side, it is the weekend and at least you don't have to go to work in the morning.
RE WDD- don't you get the impression all it is concerned about is type 2?

I find that when Riley is hitting a growth spurt he tends to run higher during the night and the highs are much more stubborn about coming down.

Happy friggin' WDD to you too.
