Gilda Radner had a character on Saturday Night Live back in the day, when it really was funny and edgy.  Her name was Roseanne Rosannadanna, and she would tell Jane Curtin on the Weekend Update, “Well, Jane, it just goes to show you. It’s always something. If it’s not one thing, it’s another.”

I  spent the early part of the summer with a good handle on the diet half of the "diet & exercise" equation, but did little or no intentional exercise.  Then my job ended.  I found a really cheap deal at a decent nearby gym and joined up.

<drumroll, please> I have worked out 4 times a week since August 1st.  I'm sure that would be much more effective in controlling my blood sugar if I weren't on the "toddler diet".  That consists of a breakfast like this - my preschooler leaves half a slice of toast, so I eat it.  I serve the toddler a banana with her meal, and she decides not to eat a bite, so I eat it.  This is after I've had my nutritionist approved breakfast.  Then lather, rinse and repeat throughout the day.

As the weeks have rolled on, I am moving further and further away from the doctor's diet guidelines and back towards the all day grazing that I fought so hard to overcome.  And not the good grazing, either - the refined carb grazing.  Several afternoons I have had to take a sugar-induced nap while my daughter does.

Now if I can just keep the exercise plate spinning on the pole in my left hand, while I set the food plate (no pun intended) back to spinning on the right.  All whilst balancing my glucometer on my nose, and oh yes, keeping up with 2 little ones, a house, a husband and the huge adjustment to unemployment!

"But I'm exercising", I whine internally! Shouldn't I get a gold medal, an A1C of 5.0 and a closet full of size 6 clothes that fit?  No, because with diabetes,  "It’s always something. If it’s not one thing, it’s another thing."
