I visited my endocrinologist recently.  Actually, I visited one of his Nurse Practioners.  I was more than a little nervous, because my weight was up a tad, after promising to lower it again, and my exercise had been non-existant. (also again).

I got out of the car and saw this sign in the parking lot.  I got the giggles. I must have looked pretty odd laughing to myself in the parking lot without even a bluetooth appendage in my ear to cover.  All I could think was "Why would Tony Soprano want convenient ER access? Wouldn't the Mob want just the opposite?".  I realized quickly that the MOB in this case meant Medical Office Building, not THE Mob, but it still really tickled me.  Maybe it was my nerves. But I had to take a picture for you, so that reduced my waiting room time.

As a matter of fact, I barely had time to find a magazine to peruse and a seat.  The person who checked me in was new, and didn't say a word about the weigh-in.  She didn't even check my sugar, which was strange.  They have always checked my sugar with a plain old meter.

It turns out the NP was more interested in my thyroid issues and testing my testosterone level. (Anyone have any idea why they would test that?) It had been 3 months since I weaned my daughter, and evidently that is the magic time for all the hormones (and bosom unfortunately) to find their new levels.

She mentioned checking for protein in my urine, but didn't write it on the lab slip.  I spent perhaps 7 minutes with her and I was on my way down to the lab.  I realized in the lab that she hadn't ordered the protein test, but decided not to go back up to the office and deal with getting another lab slip.

A week later I got a note from the NP stating that my TSH was up so she was increasing my med dosage.  And "everything else is fine".  No A1c level was mentioned, or even what my TSH was. No lab results, which I always get, so I had to call for that to be mailed.

My HbA1c was awesome at 5.6, a slight increase from my last 5.5, but I'll take it.  I'd had some unfortunate chocolate run-ins, so I was fine with 5.6. One of my Creatinine results was a bit low.  Research shows that this bit of data would make more sense if I had my proteinuria results.  Argh. I should have taken the extra hour to get that lab slip fixed up.

My satisfaction level with this office is at a new low. Since I no longer commute to near there, it would be about a 2 hour drive each way.  I think I'll be looking for someone local.  Luckily I got a year's worth of prescription refills of my metformin, so I won't need to start that search any time soon.

I know...you really have to stay on the folks at the drs office or you leave with only a partial mix of what you came for...I guess we are all busy...If you are like me, you always take the stairs before and after the visit ....makes me feel like I'm always exercising....even though I dont.:)
