I have been using insulin pump therapy to (attempt to) control my diabetes. It's been two years that I have been using it and I really do love it.

The benifits of my pump are many. Only having to stick myself once every three days is probably the biggest but also for me, my control is better.

The way the pump better mimics what a properly functioning pancreas is also a huge benifit. I know it is not for everyone but for me, it works.

One of the little things my Minimed 722 does is remind me to check my blood glucose now and then. Sure, I always check when I wake up, when I go to bed, and before every meal but I like to check a few hours after I eat. My pump reminds me to do that.

After I bolus (take insulin to cover the carbs I am eating) my pump allows me to enter an amount of time before it will beep and let me know to check my BG.

Typically I set this at 2 hours but recently I have been in such a hurry I just skip entering it in. The pump remembers the last time span you entered so when you decide to choose "no reminder" then it defaults back to that.

So you see the problem. I zoom through my bolus and press the buttons as fast as I can and forget to change it. Ultimately forgetting to check my BG! I was so used to it already being at the 2 hour BG check that I would not even think about it.

I need those beeps. I depend on them. It seems like a little thing but they truly do help me stay on top of my disease.

Do you use the beeps on your pump or how do you keep track of when to check?
