It's a milestone - but not one worthy of celebration.

Charlie is approaching five years with this despicable disease.

We can't remember Charlie without diabetes. Charlie can't either. His earliest memories will contain images of blood being taken from his fingertips constantly, being poked with sharp objects and juice being forced down his throat in the middle of the night.

Soon we won't be able to remember a time when Charlie wasn't attached to an insulin pump; a time when tape and tubing and needle wasn't fastened to his body 24 hours a day like some sort of medieval torture device.

I want this to all be a dream that seemed so real.

I want diabetes to be forgotten. Gone so long, the word escapes me.

Gone so long, the word is mispronounced.

We need a cure. We need a cure now.

If you are reading this, then you know. This is no way to live. Let's cure this stupid, no-good, dirty, rotten, derelict of a disease.

Our team, Charlie's Angels, will again participate in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday, October 26 at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Come on by and walk with us if you plan to be in the area.

Our team has raised about $70,000 in four years. How great it would be to hit $100,000 in our fifth year. We're pulling out all the stops.

I even made one of them fancy videos. Check out the "Charlie Video" here. I recommend clicking "watch in high quality" just below the video box and to the right. Otherwise it's a tad choppy.

Carey - Thanks again for all you do. I just clicked through to support you guys. :) - Nicole

I'll never listen to that song the same way again. I'll be balling like a baby each time. Thank you for working hard and raising the enormous amount of money you do. I really really appreciate it.

Holy cow -- I had to shut my door so people wouldn't hear me whimpering! What a wonderful video, and what a good-looking family. I now have material to copy for Sarah's walk video. I hope you guys bring in tons of loot. We're all in your debt.

Carey, When it got to the close up of Charlie lying on the couch and I could see the tears in his eyes, I lost it. I haven't cried about this disease in a long time. Sometimes is easy to just let diabetes be. Thank you for reminding me why I need to fight. Thank you for fighting too.

(Also, the video of Charlie with the light saber reminded me so much of Riley. I think if they ever met they'd be great friends even if they didn't have diabetes in common.)

Carey,
Great job on the video - good luck at the walk. Charlie is amazing and strong.

Your video was beautiful. I'm walking in October too, in Fairfield, CT. Having been diagnosed in 1979 at age 11, I think I've given up on the hope for a cure in my life-time. But I honestly believe there will be a cure in Charlie's life-time. And children like him are the reason my husband and I will walk.

Karen

Great job Carey. Thank you for all you do for Charlie, and us.
