Did anyone catch the new TLC show, "I Can Make You Thin"? I saw the commercials for it and thought it sounded a bit wacky, but I wanted to check it out anyway. I set the DVR to record it, but it recorded Jon & Kate Plus 8 instead.

I watched part of the show as a rerun this weekend and I have to say it really does sound like such a common sense approach to eating. On the first show, he premiered his 4 Golden Rules, which are:

1. When You Are Hungry, Eat. This sounds like such a no-brainer, doesn't it? But I have to admit, there are plenty of times when I'm hungry and don't eat because it's not meal time and I'm "on a diet." I didn't see the whole show, but I have to guess part of this is if you aren't hungry, don't eat. And I'm sure many of us have eaten when we weren't hungry.

2. Eat What You Want. This is a totally foreign concept to me. I don't think I can really eat whatever I want, because my blood sugar won't agree with some of my decisions. But I'm willing to give it a try, to some extent. I know when I deprive myself totally, I'm never really satisfied until I get what I want.

3. Eat Consciously. I don't know how to make this work for me, but I will have to work on it. Most of the time, I'm eating and feeding the baby at the same time, because I think it is important for us to eat as a family. But that also has me eating a lot slower. One bite for him, one bite for me. The key to this one, apparently, is to put your fork and knife down between bites and to savor every mouthful.

4. When You Are Full, Stop Eating. Again, this sounds like a no-brainer, but its probably the one I break the most. I have no idea when I am full anymore. I've spent so many years on so many diets, weighing and measuring my food, only being allowed a set portion size that I clear my plate at every meal (unless it is something that I really don't like and face it, that's rare!).

Next week, the show is focusing on "Emotional Eating", and I have the DVR set to record it this week again. Hopefully, I will get the right show this time.
