Tonight I took all three girls to my father's house because my step-brother and his wife were up for a visit. It was a nice night, low-key and relaxed. Until I realized that The Bug, who is almost 18 months old, was sucking back water like it was going out of style. She also peed thru two diapers in the course of two and a half hours.

Of course my brain immediately went to diabetes. I'll be checking her first thing in the morning, since she'd been snacking pretty much since we walked in the door.

Thinking over the last couple of days, she has been asking for water more frequently than usual. I thought it was cute that she'd learned to say water so quickly but then I realized that she's been saying it and drinking it like mad. She's also been waking up 5 or 6 or even 7 times a night to nurse, as opposed to her usual 2 or 3 times.

My husband thinks I'm being paranoid, but understands why I want to check. I worry a lot about one of my other kids getting diagnosed - way more than I let on to him. Of course, he doesn't worry about anything, so I guess I'm making up for his lack in that department.

I probably won't sleep well tonight. And I reallyreallyreallyreally hope that I'm being paranoid. I went thru this last summer with Boo, the three year-old, and it turned out to be nothing. I hope the same holds true for The Bug.
