Rebecca Abma

What happens when a health writer develops a chronic illness? As Rebecca K. Abma can tell you, it turns into an obsession. Since being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in December 2003, 90 percent of her non-work computer time is spent researching the disease and chatting with fellow diabetics.

Pregnant with her first child, due in October, her obsession has moved from just diabetes to pregnancy and diabetes—and of course, shopping for baby items. Frustrated with the lack of helpful information available about pregnancy and diabetes, she is currently writing a book on the subject.

Her writing has appeared in Fitness, First for women, GreatLife and Diabetes Self-Management magazines, among others as well as several websites, including Body1.com. This is her first foray into the world of blogging.

Good luck, Lindsay! My aunt has been on the yeast-free diet for years and looks at least 10 years younger than she is. And she's healthy and energetic. Please keep us posted!

How about once the plates are made, put the left overs in the fridge before you start eating, so they are cold before its time for seconds. The extra steps may stop you...
It is a learning process and if you keep focusing on it, in the long run, you'll be better off for it. Hang in there!

On Post: Repeat Offender

No, Michelle, I don't think you are overreacting. I would also be concerned! Hope you feel better.

Hi Laura, Thanks, but your link didn't work for me. Can you give me the full addy? Thanks!

On Post: Gotcha Wrap-Up

oh come on! tapping is a piece of cake...or rather not eating a piece of cake! loved The Finger yesterday. thanks for that. (typing w/ babe on lap)

I haven't needed to tap, but I'm not much of an emotional eater. Hubby's been tapping all over the place. He didn't eat (or buy) Ice cream last night, so that's a positive.

Augena, Congrats on your baby. It is really hard to get back on track after having a baby, with hormones and sleep deprivation, etc. I just keep trying and plugging away and hope it will get better soon. If you're really having a hard time getting motivated to take care of yourself, start with one thing and build on that. Like maybe you want to start taking more BS readings or actually counting carbs instead of blind bolusing. Start with one aspect and work toward better control. Also it helps to have a great support network at diabeticmommy.com.

So, did you walk??? I'm cheering for you!

On Post: Too Many Diets

Thanks for sharing. I used to follow a similar eating plan, however, since my doctor decided to take me off meds, I just cannot eat any carbs and keep my blood sugar in line. I'm really starting to jones for some brown rice too!!
