George Simmons

George Simmons is a father and husband living with type 1 diabetes. He was diagnosed over 16 years ago but only started taking his health and his disease seriously a little over a year. A self proclaimed "born again diabetic," George began blogging as a way to meet other people with diabetes.

His personal blog called "The B.A.D. Blog" (the Born Again Diabetic blog) serves as a place for George to express his frustrations, triumphs, and failures. In June 2006, George began insulin pump therapy that has helped lower his A1C and his overall management of his diabetes.

He frequently uses his sense of humor as a tool to help not only himself but others through the mental struggle and strain that diabetes can put on somebody. Always known to wear his heart on his sleeve, this native Southern Californian loves to listen as much as he loves to talk. Being a "shoulder to lean on" for family and friends is one of the things that brings him joy.

George also loves playing video games with his kids, singing songs while strumming his guitar and visiting Disneyland.

I would imagine Diabetes is on your mind more then on mind. Then there is added guilt when you burnout I bet.

I take my hat off to all D parents. YOU ARE ALL AWESOME!

That is rough Mousie. And have had watering and minding the garden make me low which is a bummer too. But seeing life makes me think about life, i guess. Who knows but it seems to work as of late! :)

I am so glad you have that support. And for a long time not being depressed and down was NOT the norm. I am thankful my attitude has turned around some for now.

The more I write about feeling alone, the more I find I am not. It's funny how that works. :)

This brings me comfort! Also that you love it! Thanks.

One common theme seems to be that pump companies will send out samples to tide you over. I would just call if you are going to run out.

LOL That is awesome!

On Post: Not So Jolly

It is hard to be jolly when so many are struggling. The tough part is no matter how loyal you are to your employer, sometimes you can end up gone in a moments notice. Here's to hoping that does not happen to your husband.

On Post: Not So Jolly

I think it is okay because we cannot always be up and jolly all the time. Diabetes takes a lot out of me and makes difficult times worse. Just because it is added stress that I sometimes get tired of.

On Post: Not So Jolly

allynate, when it rains it pours it seems. I am never one to tell people what to do but you sould like a person that a lot of people depend on.

If you are not healthy then you cannot be there. Maybe that call to insurance is due! Not necessarily for yourself but for your health. So worth it.

Take care please.
