Bagels on Friday!

Dear Friday Bagels,

I know you don't mean any harm. You're brought in by a fabulous office manager, all warm and tastefully arranged on a plastic platter in the kitchen. Egg bagels, pumpernickel, whole grain, poppy seed ... and the ultimate: everything bagel.

You are round and soft, anchored on either side by cream cheese and butter. You call to me as I sit at my desk:

"Kerri ... hey! Come over and maybe have a half?"

But Friday Bagels, you are not my friend.

With Carey and George writing about music that moves their diabetes lives, I wanted to add my two cents on this one.

For years now, the song Fitzcarraldo by The Frames has reminded me of the diabetes community and our lives with diabetes. The song Fitzcarraldo is based on a movie from 1982 about a man, Brian Fitzgerald, so enchanted with opera and the singer Enrico Caruso that he takes it upon himself to build an opera house right where he lives.

In the middle of the Peruvian jungle.

image unavailableI was looking through a list of writer prompts for Blogabetes post ideas, and one of them was this: "Open up a dictionary and flip to a random page, then select a random word. Use that word to write a post, and see if you can find a diabetes connection!"

Easy enough.

So I cracked open the big, unabridged Webster's Dictionary and selected the word "Bermuda."

Bermuda ... like triangle? Okay, I'll try it.

Up and down. That's the way it's been lately. Numbers are up, numbers are down, nothing is making sense, patterns are confusing, emotions are frustrating. I've seen some wildly high numbers in the past week or two that are completely blowing my mind. Go to bed at 109 mg/dl, but wake up at 5 am in the 300's.
