Getting it Wrong

First off, sorry I was absent last month. Nothing spectacular was going on, I just didnt find myself with the urge to write.

So on to the topic of the day: Milk, or why my fasting blood sugar sucks.

I like to be around 130ish before bed. I feel comfortable there and feel less likely to go low during the night. Sometimes, of course, it depends on what Ive eaten. If my bedtime reading is around 100 but Ive had a heavy carb meal I will likely leave it alone.

But for the nights when bedtime readings are 89 or 103 and Ive had a not-so-heavy-carb meal I will treat it with a small snack. I used to be able to drink a glass of milk and wake up with a fine blood sugar. Then that stopped working. I was waking up too high. So I started drinking less milk at bedtime and my blood sugar did better in the mornings. But after two nights of milk before bed and two days of crappy fasting readings last week, my Facebook status was: I effing hate diabetes. Just couldnt get it right.

So I stopped treating my bedtime lows with milk.

Except last night I tried something different. I had a Nutri Grain bar (which I sometimes dont even have to bolus for no matter what time of day) and a couple sips SIPS! of milk. And I bolused for 15 carbs. Even that didnt work.

So Im giving up on milk as my bedtime snack.
