December 2007 - Healthy Menu Makeovers with Celebrity Chef: Restaurateur, author and television show host, B. Smith, is encouraging people with type 2 diabetes to recognize that small changes, including food choices, can have a positive effect on managing diabetes successfully, through the Diabetes New Day campaign. The program offers people with type 2 diabetes a one-of-a-kind opportunity to have B. Smith turn their favorite recipe into a diabetes-friendly meal. This month, B. Smith is kicking-off the program with her first menu makeover in Philadelphia and will be visiting additional cities throughout the U.S. in the coming months. December 1st 2007 - Global Diabetes Summit - Community Event "Diabetes and You: Today’s Challenges, Tomorrow’s Victories" at the Greater Columbus Convention Center 400 N. High St. Columbus, OH 43215 from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm. Cost is $15.
December 5th 2007 - PCDS Smart update in diabetes module 1 - Maintaining glycaemic control. Held at the Royal College of Physicians, 11 St Andrews Place, Regent's Park, London. A one-day update devised by the Primary Care Diabetes Society (PCDS) for GPs, Practice Nurses, Diabetes Specialist Nurses and other interested healthcare professionals. The day will highlight the key competencies that healthcare professionals would aspire to achieve in primary care diabetes management. Each session is grounded in the most up-to-date evidence and will relate to specific contemporary national and international guidelines that inform delegates around relevant therapy areas. The focus will be on providing advice and guidelines for day-to-day practice.
December 6th 2007 - ADA Ask the Pharmacist Live at 1:00 pm ET. ADA Live is series of live question and answer sessions on topics related to diabetes and healthy living.
December 8th 2007 - Animas and LifeScan Johnson and Johnson Companies Present A Day of Exploration and Learning for Children and their Families living with Diabetes at the San Francisco Exploratorium 3601 Lyon Street San Francisco, CA 94123 from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Learn about clinical research in diabetes management and how to keep your kids motivated with day to day management of diabetes. Participation is limited to the first 125 registrants for this event. December 8th 2007 - TCOYD - Taking Control Of Your Diabetes Conference at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, CA. Taking Control Of Your Diabetes, 501(c)3, (TCOYD), a nationally recognized not-for-profit diabetes educational organization, invites people with diabetes, as well as those at risk for diabetes and their loved ones, to a full day of seminars, workshops and one-on-one opportunities with leading experts in diabetes care to conferences across the country in 2007. December 11th 2007 - Free Community Health Event Will Highlight Painful Diabetic Condition, Offer Strategies for Management: learn more about diabetic nerve pain, and how to help address the impact it may have on your life. December 13th 2007 - Joslin Continuous Glucose Sensors support group from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Joslin offers Children and Parents' Groups to all Joslin Pediatric patients and their families. These programs provide multi-disciplinary care and support for the whole family. These programs are offered once a month, except during summer months. Each program includes supervised group activities for children and young siblings lead by a certified Child Life Specialist, while parents meet in a separate group discussion led by a family support specialist and a pediatric diabetes medical specialist. December 15th 2007- Bay Area Ice Skating Party, Oakland, CA. We welcome children (ages 7-13) with and without diabetes to our annual Bay Area Ice Skating Party! This is a great night for parents to do some holiday shopping or to spend some time enjoying a quiet evening while their children are treated to a night of skating and fun together. Kids skate and dine the evening away with Bearskin Meadow Camp counselors and DYF's Year Round Volunteers. Dinner provided. Cost $15.00 per child. December 27-30th 2007 - Barton Center Winter Camp: Barton is teaming up again with Camp Joslin to host winter camp! Enjoy lots of winter fun with opportunities to interact with others, learn more about diabetes, and share your experiences of living with diabetes. Co-ed, ages 12-17 with a cost of $400/person.
