June 4th 2008 - The diabetes community is invited to the support group meeting held at the Diabetes Center of North Broward Medical Center in Pompano Beach, Florida. This meeting will focus on "Medications" and "Continuous Glucose Monitoring" with guest speakers Murray Pincus and Nancy Talio RN, CDE. Discussions starts at 2:00 PM. June 5th 2008 - Come to the diabetes support group meeting held at the Whitehall Boca Skilled Facility in Boca Raton, Florida. This meeting focuses on "Diabetics Helping Each Other." For more information please contact either Leon Goldstein at 954-978-8086 or Murry Pincus at 561-706-9357.
June 6 - 8th 2008 - Novo Nordisk’s Changing Diabetes® Bus and Village World Tour is visiting Pier 39 East Park, San Francisco, CA 94133. The three-day event features a mobile diabetes showroom and interactive diabetes village offering free diabetes education, activities and giveaways to area residents. ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” champion Drew Lachey will host the official ceremony on Saturday, June 7th at 11 a.m., along with local celebrity and fitness guru Joanie Greggains. Tourists, San Francisco residents and families living with, at risk of or affected by diabetes are encouraged to attend. The event is open to the public from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily. Admission is free.
June 8th 2008 – Tour de Cure. The premier cycling event presented by the American Diabetes Association will meet at the Gateway Community College North Haven, CT. This year’s event will have courses geared to all, whether you ride the 10K or 100 miles. Longer routes will cross from North Haven to Wallingford astride the Quinnipiac River, Durham and other quaint towns along Routes 17, 77, 80 and 22. Riders can expect plenty of rest stops along their routes with refreshments and a cheerful crowd provided. For more information call (860) 632-5098.
June 8th 2008 - Rip’s BAD (Bikers Against Diabetes) Ride is taking off on Sunday, June 8 in Southern California. Now in their 11th year, this ADA-sponsored event has established rides in other locations, including Northern California, Arizona, Hampton Roads, VA; St. Louis, Kansas City and Des Moines. June 10th 2008 - Come learn about diabetes at the Wellington Community Center diabetes support group meeting in Wellington, Florida. Group discussions start at 10:30 AM with guest speaker Laura del Valle MS, RD. LD, CDE. June 14th 2008 - Diabetes Surf Camp in Laguna Beach, California. This one day event for teens is presented by the PADRE Foundation and the Diabetic Youth Services (DYS). From 8 AM to 8 PM, teens can enjoy surfing instruction, kayaking, beach volleyball, water sports and team building workshops. Surf pro Scott Dunton is expected to attend. June 16th 2008 - The Golf Classic "fore" Diabetes Research. This fundraising event is being presented by the Diabetes Institute for Immunology and Transplantation (DIIT) at the University of Minnesota Medical School. June 19th 2008 – Free informational session on healthy eating for diabetes and separating fact from fiction at the Mercy Center in Madison, CT from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Eileen Rice, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator from Middlesex Hospital will discuss: • the truth about carbohydrates • popular food myths • food labels made easy. June 26th 2008 - Support Group for Dealing with Diabetes invites the public to their monthly meeting in Oneonta, NY. Guest speakers will be at every meeting. Discussions start at 7 PM and wraps up around 8:30 PM. Group meets at the Elm Park Methodist Church located at 401 Chestnut Street Oneonta, NY 13820.
