dLife Forum Guidelines

No commercial posts.
Commercial posts are defined as someone pitching a product or service that financially benefits the poster. Users may freely share their experiences with legitimate products or services that they have no commercial interest in. Commercial posts will be deleted when found, and repeat offenders banned at the discretion of the moderator. dLife is the final arbitrator of what is considered a commercial posting.

Users and moderators may reference a book, personal website, or blog that they are affiliated with as a part of their signature file, as long as the resource is a creditable and substantial informational source and not primarily an advertising vehicle. In some instances, these books or websites can be mentioned as part of a post when they
are the best or only available resource to address the topic under discussion. Again, moderators will use their discretion with the best interest of the dLife community and forum members in mind, and dLife is the final arbitrator of what is considered inappropriate commercial posting.

Trials and other research. You are welcome to post information about clinical trials and requests for research participants, but we ask that you also include a website or some other contact information where forum members can get details. These will be reviewed by forum moderators and suspicious posts will be removed. Trials/research requests should only go in the Community Center folder. Any requests placed elsewhere will be deleted.

Avoid giving medical advice. Sharing personal information and experiences is welcome, but users should avoid giving actual medical advice and instead encourage others to consult with a health care professional.

Mind your manners. Users who are rude to other dLife members will be issued an initial warning about their behavior. Their post (or the offending portion of their post) will also be deleted. Access to the dLife Forum is a privilege, not a right. Moderators will ban users who continue to treat others with disrespect. And speaking of minding your manners...

Free speech is allowed (within reason). There will be visitors and members who have opinions and experiences that may appear to be a disguised sales tactic, spam, or some other questionable motive. However, we want to first give the benefit of the doubt that the post is sincere and the work of a real person looking to connect on the topic of diabetes. Therefore, please do not criticize the views of others or attempt to persuade them of your view. Discussion can be held between persons of opposing views if mutual respect is given. If you find a post to be incindiary or questionable in any way, there is no need to engage. Simply report the post. If a discussion becomes heated and unresolved, and members continue to fuel the fire, the discussion is subject to being locked or deleted.

Quackery will be removed. Posts on the evils of aspartame, anti-perspirant causing breast cancer, the miracles of Noni juice, and any other therapy or theory that has no basis in research or medical fact are discouraged. Innocent posts on these topics will be refuted as necessary by the moderator; others will be deleted. Moderators will ban persistent offenders at their discretion.
