Born in Philadelphia, PA and then moving to Bridgeport, CT, Walt worked as a crime reporter for the Bridgeport Post. He took up cartooning and then found a job at Walt Disney Productions in CA, working on the Donald Duck cartoons. His most famous character, Pogo the Possum, was the main character in a comic strip that often engaged in social and political satire. Kelly earned a Reuben Award in 1951. He died from complications of diabetes in 1973.
