Inspiration And Expert Advice: Famous People

David Pember Biography

Claim to Fame: Brewers Pitcher
DOB: May 24, 1978 in Cincinnati, OH – Present
Diabetes Type: 1

"It just takes a little adjustment period. You have to try to listen to what your body is telling you." (JS Online- Journal Sentinel)

Bio: Milwaukee Brewers Pember, 27, has been a Type-1 diabetic for 13 years. He uses an insulin pump to regulate his blood sugar. He wears the small box on his hip, with a tube running from the pump to a port on the side of his stomach.

Pember, who pitched four games for the Brewers last September after a successful season with Class AA Huntsville, carries cans of fruit juice to the practice field with him as a precaution. When he starts to feel his blood sugar drop, he reaches for the juice.

"It’s made me a stronger person mentally, I think."
