James A. Bennett, RPh, FACA, CDM, CDE: James A. Bennett has been a Certified Diabetes Educator since 1994 and has been active in community diabetes education programs for 12 years. He is the Director of Clinical Services at James Bennett Apothecary, a progressive community pharmacy founded in 1975. He is also the director and lead instructor for the EMPOWER Diabetes Self-management Training Program, which is based at the Mississippi facility.
His facility, an American Diabetes Association Recognized Program, is designated as an Advanced Community Practice Site because of their unique emphasis on disease management in the community pharmacy setting. James Bennett Apothecary became Mississippi’s first Community Pharmacy Residency site in 1997 and currently accepts Pharm D Residents interested in pursuing advanced credentials in diabetes management. In addition, James Bennett Apothecary is partnered with Health Management Supplies , an online source for diabetes supplies and other products.
James Bennett has authored several articles on diabetes-related issues and is a frequent speaker at the national level on the value of community pharmacists as members of the health care team. He shares his diabetes expertise with the dLife community as he answers questions in conjunction with dLife columnist Joy Pape in her column Inside the Box…the Shoebox! and in our Ask An Expert forum.
