About Jim Turner

Meet Jim Turner - Co-Host of dLifeTV

Jim Turner A Note from Jim:

Hey folks,
To anyone who has written to me in the past 3 (yes, three!) years and not heard back from me; from the bottom of my heart, I apologize. Without going into a lot of detail, I have had my hands full with… stuff. Life stuff. A lot of this life stuff took place in the kingdom/raging hell of teenagedom. I don’t know if you’ve been there but it’s a challenging place for a parent to suddenly find himself. My big question is why DOES it sneak up on us like that? Seems we should see it coming but we don’t. Maybe we believe that’s a place everyone else has to visit. But not ME! Crazy.

The good news is that I’ve emerged. I drove like a maniac (in so many ways) across that angry plain and survived! The bad news is that while I was in that dark place, I ignored so so so much. Almost all of the wonderful emails that were sent to me were put in the “I’ll get to this soon!” file. Where they waited. And waited. Until now. Finally I can say that I am going to get to each and every one of these. Please be patient with me as I answer questions I received as far back as 2006 and 2007.

I’m sure those folks have been holding their breath. Well, let it out Roman Bronfenbrener and Sue Wynn and Susan Nicola and Patty Sanders and Pattie Camilli and Blair Lien and Jason Buckner and Sheryl Shambaugh and Don Godwin and Dolores Gush and Justin Morris and Jude Tulli and David Jackson and Deborah Tally and Joe Barry and Arlene Gebo and Dave Thoman and Renee and Robert Hassan and Nicole Fine and Brandon Jeremy Gomez and Val Cool and Tonya Sumpter and Dea VanDeBerghe and Hilary Laaker.

Your continued patience is appreciated and will be rewarded.
Please accept my apology.

Jim Turner

Jim Turner was in high school at the time of his type 1 diagnosis in 1970. He recounts the story vividly - weeks of dealing with unquenchable thirst, constant urination, and fatigue – running from class to water fountain to bathroom and then back again. It’s his hope that relating his experience to others will help them understand they aren’t alone. According to Jim, dLife is “putting a face on diabetes that's really diverse and really very different, that people can identify with.”

Best known as ex-football-star-turned-agent Kirby Carlisle on the long-running HBO comedy, ARLI$$, Jim Turner had major roles in two movie comedies – Kicking and Screaming and Bewitched – in 2005. In 2008, he will appear in the Eddie Murphy comedy, Starship Dave.

Jim’s television credits include Zippy the Pinhead, Lucky Louie, The King of Queens, and a number of pilots. He has also made guest appearances on Dharma & Greg, That 70’s Show, Tracey Takes On…, Sliders, Lost on Earth, Grace Under Fire, The Larry Sanders Show, Tom, Roseanne, and The Division.

Regular viewers of dLifeTV know that Jim Turner has a spark for storytelling. Not surprising, considering he’s written and performed in comic theater since the 1970s, starting out as a member of the well-known touring comedy troupe Duck’s Breath Mystery Theater. His one-man comedy credits also include Showbiz Nightmares, Girly Magazine Party, and Two-Headed Dog.

Jim enjoys sharing his personal stories with others who relate: “Everybody that knows me has heard 100 different stories about diabetes - decisions I've made, things I've done during insulin reactions. Some are really funny and some are really scary. I relish the opportunity to tell those stories.” He's put those stories together in a one-man show, DIABETES: My Struggles With Jiim Turner. Anyone interested in booking Jim's show should contact him at 323-993-8671 or email him at jim@jimturner.net.

Los Angeles is home for Jim, his wife, Lynn, and their son, Otto. Each month, Jim answers your questions about living successfully with diabetes.
