Sugar Free Gum

If you suffer from gastroparesis, or delayed stomach emptying, chewing sugar-free gum may help. Gastroparesis is caused by nerve damage in the gastrointestinal system, and people with the condition suffer from heartburn, bloating, nausea, vomiting, and other gastrointestinal distress. They also frequently experience erratic blood sugar levels as their rate of digestion is unpredictable.

The act of chewing gum produces saliva, which not only contains helpful digestive enzymes but also stimulates muscular activity in the stomach. Chewing gum for at least one hour after meals can be a helpful treatment for gastroparesis in addition to other dietary changes.
