Team Type 1 Enters the Race Across America as They Pedal for a Cure

Race Across America=Eight is enough as a group of bikers with diabetes put their mettle to the pedal and join the Race Across America. Team Type 1 will take off June 13th in the Race Across America (RAAM), which runs from Oceanside, CA to Atlantic City, NJ. The group has 8 days to complete the 3,000-mile trek.

RAAM is the longest running ultra-distance bicycle endurance competition in the world. It is a test of skill, will, and heart. Team Type 1 will step up to the challenge and add a mission of their own: To increase the general public's awareness of diabetes as a disease that can be managed effectively — allowing those with this condition to continue active, healthy lives and permitting them to perform well in athletic events.

Their goals are:

  • To raise $1 Million for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the leading research organization dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes.
  • To raise awareness of the importance of regular monitoring of blood sugar levels among people with diabetes.
  • To inspire all people to exercise every day and eat a balanced diet in order to stay healthy whether living with diabetes or prediabetes.
  • To win and break the record in the 8 Person Team category in the Race Across America!

In addition, Phil Southerland has devised a three week plan to help people with diabetes make the transition from poor diabetes management to taking charge of their diabetes lives.

Phil's 3-Week Plan for Diabetes:

Week 1 - Break Three Bad Habits!

    Week 2 - Make 3 Positive Changes!

Week 3 - Make The Changes Stick!

These small adjustments you have now made, if stuck to, will help you to lower, if not eliminate, the risk for long-term damage. It will become easy to manage your diabetes!
