Common Testing Mistakes and How to Prevent Them (continued)
MISTAKE #5: Not using control solution.

Almost every glucose meter comes with a bottle of “control solution,” which is a bottle of liquid used as a blood sample when running a control test. The control solution is engineered to produce a testing result within a predetermined range, helping you test the accuracy of your blood glucose meter. If the result of a control test is out of range, you’ll know if your meter is giving you skewed results. In this case, you should replace the meter immediately instead of wasting your time, and money, on an inaccurate meter. Call the meter manufacturer and see if they will send you a replacement!
