The underlining cause of most type-2 diabetes is insulin resistance. Treatment for insulin resistance is either weight loss or exercise, not a diet that lowers glucose and doesn't result in weight loss. Few if any can loose a large amount of weight and KEEP it off without some amount of exercise. Clinical studies have shown that insulin resistance reduces glucose uptake by muscles including the heart. Since a weaker heart will reduce the heart's ability to pump and thus lead to poor circulation, the cause of diabetic complications. It is not clear that unless one exercises, that the chances of complications will actually be reduced. Few studies have compared the onset of diabetic complications with exercise level, however studies have shown that, in general, exercise reduces the odds of heart problems and since exercise treats the underlining cause of type-2 diabetes, there is every reason to believe that exercise will greatly improve the odds of not having complications.

I try to work out at least 5 days a week, 1 hour split in thirty minute intervals on the tredmill. From 2.0 mph to 3.0 mph with 2-10 elevation. I workout with the weights 3 times a week usually. I go for a walk on days that it is possible.. Winter in VT is a bit chilly to say the least. I also try to do TaiChi and Yoga 4-5 days a week.. I have lost 30 lbs but now I am at a plateau and have not lost any wieght in a couple of weeks. I do try hard to stay on the recommended diet, sometimes I do falter and eat what I shd not.. LOL
