Are you a "Type 3"? Are you taking care of a loved one who has diabetes?

dLife is looking for an adult without diabetes who takes care of a parent who does have diabetes. We are looking to highlight the inspiring "Type 3s" who do so much to keep their loved ones in good diabetes health.

If you would like to be involved with dLifeTV and tell your story, send an email to Sorensen@dlife.com.

I appreciate what you are doing here, but as a person with MODY I wish you'd reserve the expression "Type 3" diabetes for the family of NON-insulin resistant, non-autoimmune diabetes like the MODYs (and the other not-yet identified related genetic diabetes that are currently being researched at Joslin).

There are a lot more of us than doctors realize because we often have near normal fasting blood sugars until our beta cells are completely gone then we are misdiagnosed as Type 2s.

These diabetes are different from Type 1 and Type 2 and "Type 1.5" is already being used for LADA which is a form of slow onset Type 1.

After my husband had a severe back injury the follow weight gain resulted in type2 diabetes. Although it is up to me to do the meal planning and make sure he has his medicine and diabetic supplies, I have learned that it is truely up to him to keep his diabetes in check. We have learned that regular exercise (even limited) makes more difference than anything.Including what he eats. We have also learned that drinking water helps with keeping his A1Cs stable.

I AM THE MOMMY OF A 9 YR.OLD LITTLE GUY WHO WAS JUST DIAGNOSED WITH DIABETES. I GIVE HIM INSULIN SHOTS TWICE DAILY, 8AM AND 8PM. HE ALSO HAS CUSHINGS DISEASE AND TAKES PILLS FOR THAT. I NO LONGER AM ABLE TO GO OUT AT EVENINGS FOR DINNER WITH FRIENDS NOR MOVIES AT THE MOVIE HOUSE, AS I NEED TO INJECT HIS INSULIN AS HE CANNOT GIVE HIMSELF THE SHOTS SINCE HIS LIMBS ARE TOO SHORT AND HE CANNOT HOLD A SHOT. MY LITTLE GUY IS A MINI DACHSUND AND HE IS SO SPECIAL TO ME. HE IS NOW ALL I REALLY HAVE AND HE IS MY SPECIAL BABY. CAN DLIFE HAVE SOME SPECIAL SHOWS AND ARTICLES ON PETS WITH DIABETES? I NEED ALL THE SUPPORT AND HELP I CAN GET WITH HIS CARE AND I AM VIRTUALLY ALL ALONE IN GIVING HIM HIS INSULIN AND PILLS.

I take care of my 7 year old son who has type one diabetes. I am his advocate for everything from how and what the school does for him to his coachs for sports and most importantly what the doctors do for him. My son is such a sweet and loving child that I feel I dont do enough for him considering what he has given me.

I am my son's caregiver, he is almost 12, he was 18 months when he was diagnosed with Type 1. He is very active young man, very responsible and so grown up. We lost my mother on April 1 of this year to Metastatic Breast Cancer, she was my backup in helping take care of my son, in the end it was my son and me taking care of her. He has been there with her, just as she was with him, thru everything she went thru, all the surgeries and treatments and wanted to know and understand everything, where my neice that is 8 months younger didn't understand. It is amazing how having this disease has made his life not only different from everyone else, but has made him more mature and knowledgeable. I hope the stem cell research they are working on now that they say may be the cure pays off. I pray everyday for it and now we have alittle more help in heaven to make this possible. Thanks for letting me share.

I am my wife's caregiver. She is still recovering from necrotizing pancreatitis in 2005, is facing at least two more surgeries, probably this year, and has now been diagnosed with diabetes. I am giving her Lantus nightly, and Humalog as needed. She is a vivacious, outgoing person, and a delight to be with. We have been married 43 years, and I am privileged to care for her. Her pancreatitis story is in the Hartford Letters Timeline on our website at http://godswoodshed.com/timeline/
