Be a Part of dLifeTV
dLifeTV is looking for people with diabetes to participate in a few “Roundtable Discussions” that will be taped for television. We’re looking for people over the age of 18 who are living with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Age, gender, race, profession, and marital status do not matter although, ideally, we’re looking for a diverse group of people.
What does matter is that you’ve been living with diabetes for at least three years and are eager to share your stories about the ongoing struggle of living with diabetes. We want people who have discovered habits, routines, support systems, and other treatment tips that they would like to share with the nation’s diabetes community.
dLife is also searching for some “type 3” people—spouses, life partners, significant others, parents, or children of people who live with diabetes. In other words, people who do not have diabetes themselves but who play a significant role in keeping loved ones healthy.
East Coasters preferred, as participants will be required to spend a day in Westport, Connecticut during the last week of March 2007. Diabetes-friendly food will be provided.

I am a 33 year old type 1 diabetic on a Minimed pump. I was diagnosed at age 20 as a junior in college and went on to graudate from law school.
My biggest diabetes challenge was having a child. But, I had an excellent pregnancy and now have a 17 month old son who is healthy, happy and the joy of my life! I have always been a well controlled diabetic and can share tips on how I achieve good control (both before pregnancy and during pregnancy).

of all things diabetes. I'm a healthcare worker who has recently lost my job. How can one appear in public and announce they have diabetes? They can't. I'm finding it impossible to find work in the healthcare industry and they should know better.I have traveled the world with diabetes. I was on the pump when traveling to China (which the healthcare industry there found fascinating). I've been on safari in Africa and down the Amazon
River. I've island hopped and traveled throughout Europe. I could discuss aspects of traveling and preparing for any potential problems a diabetic might encounter while traveling. I have even been
hospitalized after getting sick on a flight to Cancun.I've been a proud participant in the DCCT/EDIC study since its' inception. Does any of this help
me find a job. No, it really doesn't. I would like to see this issue discussed. You must pass a
physical to be employeed in the healthcare industry. A chest x-ray is easy. It's the blood test that might give me away. Is this fair? No, but what can one do? - At 09:33 AM on Fri, Mar 9, 2007 ROBYN HARRISON wrote:
I WANT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION. I HAVE HAD TYPE 1 DIABETES FOR 14 YEARS. I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH "DIABULIMA" FOR MOST OF THOSE YEARS. I AM 43 WITH 4 CHILDREN. I WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS MY SITUATION BECAUSE I DON'T HEAR ENOUGH ABOUT IT AND I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THEY'RE NOT ALONE.

I would like to talk about fathers/mothers of kids with Diabetes who work for Fortune 500 companies and how easy it is via the United Way directed donation program to raise funds for diabetes research of your choice.
Please look at the URL above on amounts I have raised by working for IBM.
I also know Tom Karlya very well and he can provide input on this topic.

My name is Tom Kingery and I am a 31 year old type 1 diabetic, marathon runner and triathlete. I was diagnosed with diabetes in February of 2004; since then I have competed in many marathons and many half-marathons and triathlons to raise funds for diabetes research and education. Competing and completing all of these races were great accomplishments for me because they changed my prior belief that diabetes limits what a person can do after being diagnosed. The perceptions of diabetics by the general public and even the perceptions of diabetics themselves are far too often very negative. As we all know, the complications of diabetes can be terrible, however the disease is manageable and continued negativity does not contribute to good health and proper management.
On November 3rd, 2007 I will realize a lifelong goal, when I compete in the Florida Ironman Triathlon. If you are unfamiliar with an Ironman Triathlon, it consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike, followed by a 26.2 mile run. The Ironman is widely considered the ultimate test of physical endurance and mental strength as the race will require anywhere from nine to 17 hours of continuous activity to finish before the midnight deadline. Prior to my diagnosis of diabetes, completing an Ironman was a dream of mine, simply for personal accomplishment. Since then, marathon running and triathlon competitions have become even more meaningful because they are now a means to raise funds for valuable diabetes research. Through my partnership with the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, I will compete in the Florida Ironman to raise funds for diabetes care and eduaction, and to hopefully encourage other diabetics to go after their lifelong goals. By competing in endurance events I hope to help change the perceptions of diabetics and of our perceived capabilities. It is my hope that I can encourage young diabetics and newly diagnosed diabetics to go after anything they want without accepting self-imposed limitations.
