HIMMA Defeated
The Senate voted 55-43 late Thursday to stop considering the Health Insurance Marketplace Modernization and Affordability Act (HIMMA) of 2006, or S. 1955. Proponents had argued that HIMMA would help small businesses provide affordable healthcare coverage to their employees, but the Act would have also overridden state-mandated coverage for diabetes supplies - a potential disaster for millions of Americans living with diabetes, As dLife reported in March, the Congressional Diabetes Caucus refused to take a stance on the legislation. We're glad you - the diabetes community - didn't let that stop you from letting your legislators know what you thought.
