I have had type 1 diabetes for almost three year and since then ive gotten my 2nd, 3rd, and 2 cartilages and have had no healing problems. But i want to get my belly button pierced. Is it a good idea or is it hard to heal because my mom says that it could get infected really easily and i will have to get cut or something. any advice? email me. ashelyromano@yahoo.com thank you.

If you have diabetes no matter what type either 1 or 2 you should ask your doctor. A lot of it has to do with where you get your tatoo. Of course your feet and legs are most subseptable.

But most of all talk to your doctor first.

I have had diabetes for ten years now. I have a pair of double zero gauge holes in my ears, two normal pairs above that and my cartalige. I also have my eyebrow, lip, tongue and belly button. Along with a leg sleeve and an upper back piece. Even though my blood sugars can often run high, my a1c is around 8. With everything I healed perfectly except for my lip because i kept changing it out within a week. Other than that, it is perfectly fine, and awesome if i might add, to get tattooed and pierced!!!

    Enjoi!!!

Having Diabetes has very little bearing on whether you can get tattoos or piercings. I have had diabetes for 20 years now and I have had 8 piercings (only have 6 now) and 12 tattoos. I am very fortunate because I heal very quickly, so neither are an issue for me. The big questions you need to ask yourself are the following:

    1. How well do I heal? Regardless if you are a diabetic or not, if you have difficulty healing, it is not in your best interest to get pierced or tattooed. This is probably the biggest factor to tak into consideration.

    2. Is this what I really want? This is more based around tattoos. This goes for anyone. Make sure you know what you are getting and think you will still be happy with it in 50 years, because it will still be with you. maybe not as crisp and clear, but still there. Removal is expensive and not always possible.

everyones questions are the same and still i think the answers are still relatively the same.
the procces for a diabetic to heal is slower and u need to take better precautions... do what ur artsits tells u to so to help heal the wound and monitor monitor monitor!!!

i have type 1 diabetes...i have my belly button, my ears, my cartilage and my septum pierced.... all went well my septum healed the fastest and the best.

ive been wanting a tattoo for sometime now .. on the top of my feet. and yes im kinda nervous just because the what ifs..... but if its something id like to do like everyone else here im gonna have to take the chance and make sure keep my blood sugars moniterd and well taken care of.

    good luck to me!

If you have diabetes, check with your doctor first before getting a tattoo or piercing since diabetics are more prone to infections. I have 5 piercings, and needed doctors permission for them all. Thank god none of them got infected. If you want a tattoo, usually your a1c has to be 7 or lower.

My younger sister has type 1 diabetes. she got a tattoo and got a serious infection due to them shaving her lower back. It took weeks to heal and she had to be on antibiotics. she luckily healed. talk to your endocronologist first before getting a piercing or tattoo and MAKE SURE the place you are going is up to code on all its licenses and follows health codes etc.

I have type 1 diabetes and i have 3/4 inch guages in my ears, a lip ring, and tattoos. keep your blood sugar where it needs to be during your healing time and you are just like everyone else. but also be sure to take all steps to avoid infection.
