On her first anniversary, I sent my daughter a little bear with angel wings attached to a balloon and note saying I love her and that I'm so proud of her for being so brave. (she was diagnosed at 12, almost 13 and is now 14)

In 1997 I celebrated living half my life with T1 diabetes and the other half without it. On the Friday after Thanksgiving next week, I will be celebrating my 38th year practicing the fine art of Type 1 diabetes management. I don't make a big deal about it but since this is National Diabetes month, I would urge all of those living with diabetes to do the very best you can to control your blood sugar to avoid the serious complications that can develop with long standing out of control diabetes. There is a cure coming and I want to be healthy to take the cure and enjoy the rest of my life without it.
