Deconstructing the Pyramid

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) released their revamped food pyramid yesterday. More accurately, it's an "interactive food guidance system" that you customize to your needs via a new dedicated USDA website. While in many respects the new and improved pyramid is even less accessible and understandable to the average consumer than the old food pyramid was, there is one new component that everyone can easily understand and benefit from - exercise.

I think that the new pyramid is flawed as well. It does not mentioned how important it is to go organic (Everyone should go organic), and the dangers of trans fats and the facts of polyunsaturated oils (Vegtable oils and what not). I think that they need to mentioned that we need to eat grass-fed meat, not corn or genetically-modified-fed meat, and we should limit the grains, starches, and sugars on our diet.

In 1900, heart disease was rare, yet we consumed 3800 calories a day and about 110 grams of fat a day! What? And now some amricans are consuming about 2000 calories a day and even these people who ate the big Monster thickburger ate the same calories. The problem? we are consuming too much bread and cereals, too much omega 6s, and we are growing the animals in dirty factory farms. That's why we are geing sicker and sicker in America. Yes, that exercise stepper is on the side of the pyramid, but only 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day? I think that we need to exercise at least 60 to 90 minutes a day. That's what we are supposed to do.
